Emma Niven

Founder, Loch Leven's Larder

Emma’s retail career started in Kings Road, Chelsea, where she found her passion for blending eclectic products in an original way to reflect a customer’s personality. From an early stage she recognised that retail is about people and understanding their passion, and then delivering on this expectation.

She returned north to study Hospitality, Health and Nutrition completing a master’s degree at Dundee University.

The family farm was already producing field scale vegetables, but with no concept of retail marketing. There was a barrier that our friends and family couldn’t buy our produce as it disappeared to anonymous multiple retailers with no provenance. There was also a lack of local outlets that supplied fresh, local foods in a safe environment for young families.

So, in 2006 she established a Retail and Hospitality Destination called Loch Leven’s Larder. A40-seater café with farm produce that originally employed 8 people. It now involves two Home and Interior giftshops: a Food Hall, Bakery and Deli; and four different hospitality offerings, employing 90 people.

Although the scale has increased the vision has remained consistent-it about people, provenance and passion.
